Anti-Wrinkle Injections

A prescriber-led treatment that softens the expression lines caused by repeated muscle movement, from £250 for standard areas.

Finance available on the full cost, 0% APR up to £2,000 with Klarna (subject to status)

Anti-wrinkle injections reduce the activity of the specific facial muscles that create expression lines, so the skin above them folds less and the lines soften over the following weeks. They address dynamic lines, the ones that deepen when you move, rather than lines caused by volume loss or skin quality.

This is a prescription treatment. That means it can only be provided after an individual assessment by a qualified prescriber, who decides whether it is appropriate for you. It is not something that can be bought from a page or requested by area, and we will decline where it is not the right answer.

Which areas are treated?

The standard areas are the frown lines between the brows, the horizontal forehead lines, and the lines at the outer corners of the eyes. These are the most common sites because they are created by strong, frequently used muscles.

Other areas are sometimes appropriate depending on your anatomy and what is bothering you. Which areas suit you, and whether treatment is advisable at all, is decided at your consultation rather than chosen from a list.

What does the appointment involve?

Your prescriber assesses your face at rest and in movement, discusses what you want to change, and explains what is realistic. If treatment is appropriate, it takes a few minutes. Most people describe a brief sting rather than pain, and there is no anaesthetic required.

You can return to normal activity immediately, though we ask you to avoid strenuous exercise, lying flat and rubbing the treated area for the rest of the day.

When will I see a difference, and how long does it last?

Changes usually begin within a few days and settle by around two weeks, which is when the result is properly assessed. The effect is temporary and wears off gradually over a period of months, after which movement returns fully.

How long it lasts varies between individuals and with how strong the treated muscles are. Your clinician will discuss realistic intervals with you rather than committing to a fixed schedule.

Is it right for everyone?

No, and an honest assessment sometimes concludes that it is not. It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with certain neuromuscular conditions, or where the concern is actually volume loss or skin quality rather than muscle movement. Some people are better served by skin boosters, polynucleotides or dermal fillers.

If your forehead is compensating for heavy upper lids, reducing that muscle would make the heaviness worse. Picking this up beforehand is exactly what the assessment is for.

Frequently asked questions

How much are anti-wrinkle injections?

Standard areas are £250 at our Harley Street clinic. Your consultation is free, and treatment is only provided where a prescriber assesses it as appropriate for you. The exact plan is confirmed in person rather than chosen in advance.

How long do anti-wrinkle injections last?

The effect is temporary and wears off gradually over a period of months, varying between individuals and with how strong the treated muscles are. Movement returns fully afterwards. Your clinician will discuss realistic intervals at your appointment.

Do anti-wrinkle injections hurt?

Most people describe a brief sting rather than pain. The needles are very fine, no anaesthetic is normally needed, and the appointment itself takes only a few minutes once the assessment is done.

Will my face still move?

That is the aim. Treated conservatively you keep natural expression while the lines soften. A face that cannot move does not look younger, it looks treated, and we would rather under-treat and review than overdo it.

Who can provide this treatment?

It is a prescription-only medicine, so it must be assessed and prescribed by a qualified prescriber following a face-to-face consultation. At our clinic that assessment is carried out by a GMC-registered clinician.

Is it suitable during pregnancy?

No. It is not offered during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It is also unsuitable with certain neuromuscular conditions, and where the underlying concern is volume loss or skin quality rather than muscle movement.
